How it works

Sign in with a free account, then drop your PNG on the upload box. The conversion starts as soon as you pick the file. Your browser sends the PNG with its transparency, so the see-through area around the artwork stays see-through in the SVG.

If the PNG has a plain white background instead, the tracer leaves it out of the SVG. It does this only when the white is pure white and covers the whole image behind the artwork. White shapes inside the artwork stay, as long as they don't touch the white background. Where they do, they are part of the background and go with it.

Leave the text box under the upload area empty. Words typed there send your image to the AI redraw, which places it on a white square and draws it again.

When the background stays

Off-white, cream, colored and photo backgrounds are not plain white, so the tracer keeps them. In our tests a very light grey background (#f8f8f8) stayed in the SVG.

Which images work best

Logos, icons, stickers and clip art with flat colors give the cleanest result. Photos convert too, but the SVG looks more like a painting of the photo and the file can get large. For a logo, the logo to SVG converter uses the same settings and explains how the colors are picked.

Use SVG to PNG. It keeps the transparent areas. SVG to JPG fills them with white, because JPG has no transparency.
