How it works

Drop your logo on the upload box. The conversion starts as soon as you pick the file, with no account needed, and you see a preview of the SVG. Sign in with a free account to download it.

The tracer looks at the image before it traces. For flat artwork, which most logos are, it picks a small set of colors from the image and fills every shape with one of them, so the SVG has clean areas of color instead of hundreds of shades.

If the logo sits on a plain white background, that background is left out of the SVG, so the logo can go on any color. White parts of the logo stay unless they touch the white background. A transparent background stays transparent.

Example

Round mountain badge logo on a white background, saved as a JPG

Before: JPG, 800 × 800 pixels, 34 KB, white background.

The badge logo as an SVG with four flat colors and no background

After: SVG, 2.7 KB, 6 shapes in 4 colors, no background.

Made with the same tracer and settings this page uses, from the PNG the browser sends. JPG compression adds faint noise around the edges; the SVG has the logo's four colors and no extra shades.

Getting a clean logo SVG

Start from the largest, sharpest copy of the logo you have. A blurry or tiny logo gives soft, uneven edges. Screenshots and logos copied from websites are often small, so look for the original file first.

Lettering in a logo becomes shapes in the SVG, not editable text. To change the wording, you need the original design file or the font.

This page has no setting for the number of colors. To cut the palette down after converting, for example for screen printing or vinyl, open the SVG in the SVG Editor and use the Reduce colors slider, which can go down to two. The SVG Color Editor shifts the hue of every color with one slider.

If the logo is on an off-white or colored background, that background stays. Remove it afterwards with the SVG Background Remover. If you need a new logo rather than a copy of an old one, the AI vector generator draws one as an SVG from a description.

Questions

How do I vectorize a logo for free?

Upload it on this page. The preview needs no account; to download the SVG, sign in with a free account, and each SVG counts against its small weekly allowance. Inkscape, which is free software, can also trace a logo with Trace Bitmap in the Path menu, where you set the colors and thresholds yourself.

How do I vectorize a logo in Illustrator?

Place the image, select it and open Image Trace from the Window menu. Pick a preset, adjust the colors, then click Expand to turn the trace into paths. Here, the tracer picks the colors for you.

SVG or PNG for a logo?

SVG stays sharp at every size and a flat logo makes a small file, so it suits websites and print. Keep a PNG copy for places that don't accept SVG files. SVG to PNG makes one at the size you need.

How do I put the SVG logo on a website?

Upload the file and reference it like any image, with <img src="logo.svg" alt="Company name">, or paste the SVG code into the HTML. The copy button on the result copies the code.
