How it works

Sign in with a free account, then drop your GIF on the upload box. Your browser opens the GIF and turns it into a PNG, and that PNG is traced into vector shapes. The conversion starts as soon as you pick the file. When the SVG appears, download it.

What to expect from a GIF

A GIF holds at most 256 colors per frame, and most GIF logos and icons use far fewer. Flat areas of color like these are what a tracer handles best, so they usually come out as a small number of clean shapes.

GIF transparency is all or nothing for each pixel. The tracer can fill those see-through pixels with white, so a transparent GIF may come out on a white background. To get a see-through SVG, use PNG to SVG with transparent background, which takes GIF files too and leaves a plain white background out.

Dithered GIFs, where colors are mixed as dot patterns, and GIFs made from photos trace into many small shapes. If you have the same image as a PNG, use that instead with the PNG to SVG converter.

Can I convert an animated GIF into an animated SVG?

No. The converter traces the first frame and gives you a still SVG. To use another frame, save it as its own image first, for example as a PNG.

How do I get the SVG code?

Download the SVG and open it in any text editor, or use the copy button on the result to copy the code. You can paste it straight into an HTML page.

Is the GIF to SVG converter free?

You need a free account, which has a small weekly allowance shared with the AI generator and the background remover. The pricing page lists the paid plans.
